Tennis

A number of Embassies, residences, and private homes in Canberra have tennis courts. Regular tennis games can be organised for the diplomatic community.

Diplomatic tournaments are held in spring and autumn. The Diplomatic/Australian Tennis Weekend comprises Mixed Doubles on Saturday and Men's and Ladies Doubles on Sunday. The Committee organises a partner for you, so no need to worry in that regard.

On the Sunday there is a superb catered lunch and drinks for all players and friends, Finals Matches in the last couple of years have been at the Royal Swedish Embassy. Magnificent Perpetual trophies have been donated by various Embassies over the years and are presented to the winners of the various Finals .

The Committee caters for  two levels of standard, so beginners are made welcome, as well as the more advanced players. Entry costs are minimal to cover balls and trophies, as a number of major businesses sponsor  these two weekends in spring and autumn.

The concept of the tournament weekend is to allow Diplomats to meet Australians with a common interest in tennis. Many long friendships result from these weekends.
